Roger Salvarita Solo Exhibit

The Negros Museum is currently showcasing the first solo exhibit of Roger Salvarita, a Negrense visual artist, entitled Woman in Women which runs from March 10 to April 10 at the Phinma Gallery.

“Gallery walls will be filled with women in diverse roles of society which makes this exhibition unique from my former exhibits. Within the folds of these women collection lays iconic beauties and personalities that will bring crowds to reminiscence,” said Salvarita.

Survived as one of the 80’s cinema painters, Salvarita had worked on many cinema paintings in Bacolod that engraved his skills in cinema style painting giving his works a realistic look as what is needed in these kinds of projects.

The Star for All Seasons, the UN Goodwill Ambassador, the Queen of Philippine Movies, these are just a few of the women Salvarita chose to deliver in his signature style that gives a direct and bold attack to painting.

As a way to present his original cinema style at the same time commemorate women, Salvarita gives his audiences a way to cherish the days when cinemas weekly present paintings for publicity rather than posters and the reign of women media icons of significance.

In this collection, the artist walks back to the dimension of his lifetime where theaters hire artists for one reason only—to give the public a taste of what is to come within theater walls where the moving marquee of pictures are shooting in front of their eyes.

The Negros Museum is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10AM to 7PM.

The Negros Museum

The Negros Museum is the first in the Philippines curatorially conceived without focus on precious artifacts, but instead on the complex stories and people whose lives make up the stories. Originally opened in March 16, 1996 at the Provincial Capitol Building, the Negros Museum transferred to its current location which is the Former Agricultural Building in Gatuslao Street in May 2003, attaining its “art deco influenced look, through the fusion of the building’s already present foundation, and the reconstruction of pillars remnant of its provincial Kapitolyo. Conceived in 1987, the Negros Museum opened on March 16, 1996 and served as Negros Occidental’s provincial museum. Housed in Bacolod’s historic neoclassical capitol building built in 1925, the museum is unique as museums go because it does not focus on precious artifacts. Instead it makes innovative use of original contemporary artworks as well as quality reproductions to tell the story of Negros. It is a child-friendly museum with a livelihood component. Local artists and artisans sell copies of their commissioned works at the Museum Shop.

Women's Month Celebration

March has been declared by The Philippines Congress as Women’s Month. This is toprovide wide-latitude for women all over the country to implement awareness, advocacy and action activities in their communities and thus uplift the status of women.
